CASE STUDY:
Carlton & United Breweries tank removal
Site: Broadway
Scope: Removal of tanks from Broadway and transportation of the tanks to Queensland for re-use. The ranks removed and recommissioned the Bright Beer tank (30,000L - 4t) and the fermentation tank (500,000L - 37t).
Total project: In excess of $2,600,000.
Duration: 2 Months.
Work Method: RMA's Step-By-Step process
This project required a highly specialized team to deconstruct the buildings in a precise manner to ensure structural integrity while creating a space large enough to remove the tanks.
Bright Beer - Removal of the roof structure, creating a penetration in a 500mm think slab for the tanks to be lifted through and removal of various concrete and steel structures to allow the tanks to be moved and lifted free of the building.
Fermentation tanks - Removal of 80% of the roof structure including sheeting purlins and structural steel to enable the removal of 20 x 500,000L fermentation tanks. The tanks were lifted using 800t and 300t crawler cranes. The biggest lift was a 37t tank at a distance of 93m.
Make good the dismantled structures.
Study: The works were completed within budget and schedule without disruption to the operations of other areas of the site. RMA's integrated management systems and Step-By-Step process were fundamental to the success of the project.
